I strongly recommend it. I guess it’s understandable that Gardner wanted to do more than just change the wording given that his name is all over the cover, but he has not improved the book as p.thomson as I am concerned.

Another point that is important to note is that they don’t just demonstrate how the problems are done, Thompson and Gardener also prove how the math is true and how it can be used in science and in the real world. This was a book that I skimmed through, rather than thoroughly digested, not bg because much of each chapter consists of worked examples and exercises which I didn’t attempt. You can help Wikipedia by expanding it. With a new introduction, three new chapters, modernized language and methods throughout, and an appendix of Success in the beginning instead of failure goes a long way toward further study. The book is a fun, cheap, and somewhat dated way to get into calculus. It’s a clear, simple but practical look at calculus and without it I probably would have became a liberal arts major.
This book definitely makes calculus easy, by presenting it with simple enough concepts that are then backed up by the mathematics needed to understand them. It’s certainly light on rigor, but for silvanks introductory primer,that’s not such a terrible thing. It turned out to not be at all what I’m looking for yet I am rating it 5 stars! I’m happy to have this legendary book as my first Math book read from cover to cover.
