Share your thoughts with other customers. Drew and Constance are interesting characters and seem to be of their time. This struck the perfect balance. The characters were irritating sometimes but I grew with them and soon realised how true they were.

Skelly Morrow was dead. Total personality disorder going on. I don’t mean bad words. Sure the nitty gritty details were skipped but the theme of the entire first half of the book was sex.
I really like the cover and summary, and the textual formatting of my edition is pretty. John Smith and his men insisted on fair dealings. Definately worth the read.
The “tobacco brides” will be on board–eligible women seeking a better life in America, bartered for with barrels of tobacco from the fields. The Measure of a Lady. The author gives detailed descriptions of the clothing and lifestyle of the period, but it never bogs down the story. There was faith too, not much though. Gegrudging like stories of the frontier the American frontier and SF frontiers. The basic plot does has a lot of similarities, but mozt are still very different. England is in the beginning grip of the Civil War, and royalist sentiments are squelched with ferocious authority.
Beyond that, Constance does little to help run the household. Disease is in the background, as are the relations with the Native Americans.

But there was plenty of drama and conflict. It was a shock, and I really wished she hadn’t gone where she did at the end. My favorite plot line in a love story is when the man and woman are forced to marry and slowly learn to fall in love, so I thought this one would be right up my alley.
With wit and humor, Gist weaves a lovely tale. She writes very well, and crafts a compelling, realistic story. And that the couple truly enjoyed one another within the marriage bed.
It did taste good. If you enjoy a story of love and faith with historical details, then Ms. This book was well written, well researched, emotionally engaging, and featured two wonderful protagonists.

There were numerous places, especially toward the middle of the story where dialogue from two different characters was included in the same paragraph. Probably because my knowledge of that period isn’t the best ever May 22, Courtney rated it it begrudgkng amazing Shelves: I get that it’s her passion and that’s fine but making it an integral part of the bridee and the interaction between Drew and Constance was annoying to me.
In addition, settlements were often placed near water to aid in shipping, but this practice often led to airborne diseases like malaria, which wiped out many of the colonists during the lean months when food and water were difficult to obtain. The sexual tension is strong – and that’s as close to begrydging actual sex as you’re going to get. The bay breeze picked up, causing her hair to swirl around her face. Some spiritual stuff was in there but for me it was overpowered by the contrived scenes that showed the sexual tension between the couple.
Her haughty demands to be freed and returned to England go unheeded, and she’s bought as a bride by one of the local, prosperous landowners, Drew O’Connor. But the warriors didn’t come up with overtures of peace. I won’t read any more of her books though. Add to this four RITA nominations, two Christy Awards, rave reviews, and a growing loyal fan base, and you’ve got one recipe for success.
Though she was a lady unaccustomed to hard work, she makes the best of her current circumstances, genuinely trying to adapt to life in America.
I’ve read that there were historical inaccuracies, but I didn’t notice them. Here are some of my thoughts while reading: They finally get around to it and then everyone gets all angsty again because they end up abstaining for another 5 or 6 months while they make assumptions about each others feelings hegrudging avoid each other and don’t communicate.
This really was a lovely story. There should have been much more study done.
